5 stars, 4 stars and 2 stars for three stories. This book contains reprints of three stories which were first published in the 1990s.5 stars for WHITE OUT.Loved it. Nice plot twists. Some suspense. Intriguing sex scenes. Hope runs a lake resort in Idaho. During a blizzard, a nearly frozen man knocks on her door and collapses. She drags him inside, removes his frozen clothes and gets inside a blanket with him to give him her body heat.(view spoiler)[CAUTION SPOILERS:After awhile, with his body warmed up, the first sex scene occurs. He was half awake and half asleep and probably didn’t know what he was doing. It was unexpected and very sensual. He tells her he is a lawman, but she starts having doubts when she hears that a dangerous escaped convict is in the area. (hide spoiler)]Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: current day Idaho lake resort. Copyright: 1997. Genre: romantic suspense.4 stars for BLUE MOON.My feeling at the end was awwww, that’s lovely. I loved Jackson’s passion. The story had wonderful sensuality. Lilah lives on the river with no electricity. Because Lilah sees auras, local people go to her when they are sick. She tells them to see a doctor when needed, or she sells them her medical herbs and poultices. That is how she makes a living. One local man is afraid of her and plans to shoot her. The sheriff, Jackson, is notified and heads out to stop the man. Jackson ends up being stranded at her place during a storm which is how they meet and fall for each other.Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: current day small south Alabama county. Copyright: 1999. Genre: contemporary romance with a little suspense.2 stars for LAKE OF DREAMS.Just ok. Thea has been having erotic dreams about Richard, but she doesn’t know his name. She goes to a lake cottage for a few weeks to get some rest and hopefully stop the dreams. When she arrives, she meets Richard who is renting the cottage next door. He has been having the same dreams about her. They have known each other in past lives. I did not like the lack of normal communication on Richard’s part. He knew more about their past lives and reasons for being together than Thea did. When she asked him if he killed her in the past, he said yes, but he didn’t explain the circumstances. If he would have explained the past and been more open with her, there would have been no major conflict. I also did not care to read about Thea being weak, helpless, frightened, and hysterical. Sometimes weak characters are ok, but this time it didn't work for me.Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: current day White Plains and a house on a country lake. Copyright: 1995. Genre: reincarnation, contemporary romance.

Kindle edition. Three short stories, all written by Linda Howard, all previously published. The first two listed below have a paranormal edge. All three stories involve thoughts of conception and include explicit sex scenes. Lake of Dreams: 2.5 stars. Not crazy about this one. Too much time spent in dreams, or in her head. She keeps seeing him murder her, but it's only in her dreams. Isn't it?? Very sexy. Nice ending.Blue Moon: 4.5 stars.Loved this one!! A sheriff and a "different" woman who lives deep in the woods fall in love. She has a special ability. Wish it had been longer. It made me chuckle. The sheriff reminded me a little of the sheriff in Open Season.White Out: 4 stars. During a snowstorm far from any city, a woman lets a popsicle into her home because he is in danger of hypothermia. She tends him, a stranger. He recovers and they make love. All seems peachy till a man knocks on her door... What to do, who to trust?? (a little too much sex, not enough talk, for such a short story)

I was supposed to be reading a simple, cute YA in The Wrong Side of Right but for some reason, it wasn't compelling enough for me so I decided to take a break. I started other books but couldn't get into it as well. In the end I just picked up one of the the last few Linda Howard books I haven't read yet and what do you know, I finished without even updating my currently reading shelf. Lesson of the day: when in a reading slump, pick up any Linda Howard. So onto the review!I absolutely loved all three novellas. Lake of Dreams and White Out are tied in the first place while Blue Moon may not be as great but still enjoyable. All couples had great chemistry which really made the reading experience much more engaging.Lake of Dreams. 4 stars. Super hot 'almost' sex scenes. Love the back and forth of the characters (Thea and Richard) and the mystery with a hint of fantasy the story revolves around in.White Out. 4 stars. Again, super hot sex scenes. Hero (Price) is adorable but still alpha male. Heroine (Hope) is kickass amazing. Suspenseful. Riveting.Blue Moon. 3.5 stars. Lilah and Jackson's story. Story is unique and the couple is adorable together. Not much suspense or steam compared to the first two but still a good read.

OK - these aren't classic fairy tales but there is love and danger and magic and happy-ever-afters. Oh yeah, and lots more sex that the stories you grew up reading. Strangers in the Night is a collection of three novellas with the recurring theme of sex with strangers. In Lake of Dreams, the two lovers have been reunited again after many doomed reincarnations. They have one final chance to get it right. In Blue Moon, a sheriff meets a woman with mysterious gifts and falls hard. But is she a murderess? And in White Out, a young widow is stranded in a blizzard with the near-dead man who literally falls at her doorstep. She goes all out to warm up his frozen body and is happy in her belief that she has finally fallen in love again. Until she turns on her radio and finds out that three escaped convicts are on the loose in her neck of the woods. Strangers in the Night is not one, not two, but three great reads. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

For an anthology collection, these were surprisingly good. (I usually prefer full length novels.) I liked all three stories.4 stars: Lake of DreamsHighly original short story with a mix of suspense, romance, paranormal and horror. Kept me on the edge of my seat! 3.5 stars: Blue MoonShort but sweet love story with an sexy small town sheriff and psychic heroine. This one ended a little abrubtly for me--would have liked for it to be longer. Good read.3.5 stars: White OutHeroine saves sexy hero during a blizzard. This one also seemed a little too short. Would have liked more to the story.

Not my cup of tea about romance.

Strangers in the Night is a story collection from Linda Howard. It contains three short stories written by this author. In my mind, there’s no better way to know if you like an author than to try a short story. It’s like the book equivalent of an hors d’oeuvre, small, delicious without any commitment. The first story is Lake of Dreams and it’s almost a fantasy. It definitely has a fantastical element in it. Sick of not getting enough sleep, Thea Marlow goes to the cottage by the lake that has been the scene of most of her disturbing dreams. Unfortunately, instead of getting exorcising those issues, she meets a stranger who turns out to be the main character in her dreams. In Blue Moon, Sherriff Jackson Brody is sent out to deal with a drunk man and ends up meeting the town’s odd lady, a so-called witch. Instead of a toad, she turns out to have a winning personality and feistiness to match his own. Finally, in White Out, Hope Bradshaw offers shelter to a stranger in the middle of a blizzard and, when they share more than some body heat, suspicions start to rise as to his identity.Linda Howard never disappoints. She writes consistently authentic characters that are fully developed and realistic. Already an absolute fan, I loved reading these short stories and watching her set the setting, introduce the characters and stir the plot in a few short sentences without making the reader feel robbed or rushed. If you’ve never tried Linda Howard, let me encourage you. She’s the number two most popular author of contemporary romance for a reason and these tiny stories are a great way to get to know her.

This is a book of three short stories by Howard.Lake of Dreams was my favorite out of the three stories in this anthology. I'm usually not a big soul mate plot fan, but this time I didn't mind at all because of how well it was done. The suspense Howard managed to build up in about 100 pages was absolutely fantastic. It had me switching my opinions of Thea's "dream man" and biting my nails every time she let him within 5 feet of her.Blue Moon was my least favorite story out of the three. It wasn't bad, it just didn't live up to the other two. Compared to "Lake of Dreams" and "White Out" there was very little actual plot going on. That little description for this one isn't that great. Brody gets called out to a remote house in the Bayou after receiving a tip off that a local red neck has headed out there with a shot gun to harass the woman who lives there. But upon getting to the cabin he finds the woman was quite able to take care of herself. A storm soon blows through trapping Brody and the woman together... mad-ness ensues. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this one and the heroine was pretty interesting other than that.White Out was another good installment in this book. I really loved the snowed in storyline and the suspense surrounding whether or not Hope has just saved an escaped convict was fantastic. But what I liked most about this story was that Hope wasn't dumb when it came to survival instincts. When push came to shove she knew exactly how to take control of the situation and didn't let her emotions over rule her common sense.

Three short stories about falling in love with strangers. I thought all three stories were fun and kept my attention, even if they were a bit far fetched. Lake of Dreams was a bit strange. Blue Moon had the best characters. Jackson and Delilah were the right balance or mystery, humor, and intrigue. White Out seemed a bit rushed to me, but the tension when Hope discovers the man she's got in her house might not be who she thinks he is is fabulous. All in all, a good read, especially if you're looking for something short.

3.5 starsI know I read the first story before, and I might have read the second two. They seemed a little familiar. The first one was the best, and the third one was my least favorite. (view spoiler)[After she strips the guy and attempts to warm him up, they have sex while he is still not fully conscious. He just starts making love to her. She doesn't push him away. I still thought there might be an issue of consent as he is not fully aware. (hide spoiler)]

"Lake of Dreams" ~ ★★★ 1/2The story of two soul mates, who get another chance at making things right.(view spoiler)[Thea starts having intense, vivid dreams, of a warrior who loves her and kills her time and time again. At the same time, because of the nature of her death, she develops a crippling fear of water, and in an effort to overcome it, she visits her family's summer house that sits by a lake.To her astonishment, she meets the man of her dreams and she is equally attracted to him and afraid of him. He has the same dreams as her and seems to have answers - they have found each other again and again in previous lives, always in warring sides and ending up dead because of their lack of trust. This appears to be their last chance to overcome their issues and find their happily ever after.Despite the warning, Thea almost repeats past mistakes and nearly drowns once again, but before it's too late realizes that he never actually killed her, but tried to save her instead, and when he couldn't he always ended up dying with her. (hide spoiler)]Romantic, with a slight paranormal element."Blue Moon" ~ ★★★The story of Jackson, a competent sheriff of a small town, and Lyla, the "witch" he attempts to save from a superstitious thug.(view spoiler)[Lyla is not exactly a witch, but more of a healer, using her talent of aura reading and the folk medicine knowledge passed down to her by her mother. She also gets premonitions sometimes, a knowing of things to come, and upon meeting Jackson, knows that he is the love of her life.Jackson does not believe in witches and spells, but can't deny the connection and attraction he feels towards Lyla since the first moment they met. After getting stranded at her house when the thug escapes and takes their boats with him, the two spend a night together and succumb to their attraction. (hide spoiler)]Enjoyable enough story, but despite their connection and the "meant to be" element, I can't say I buy them being so deeply in love with each other that soon."White Out" ~ ★★★★The story of Hope Bradshaw, a widow alone in her cabin home during a blizzard, and her unexpected visitor, whose life she saved.Hope Bradshaw, a widow alone in her cabin home during a blizzard, saves the life of a man who unexpectedly turns up at her doorstep. Price Tanner, who nearly died of hypothermia, is a deputy who got stranded after getting into an accident, or so he says...Hope finds out that there are escaped convicts in the area, and some things about Price's story don't exactly add up. Has she made a terrible mistake? An enjoyable story, with a heroine who is capable of saving herself, thank you very much, and a romance that felt more realistic than the other two stories, and not because of the lack of supernatural elements.

Linda Howard – White Out (rating 3.5)Hope BradshawPrice TannerDiantara 3 cerita di seri Stranger in the night, saya paling suka yan ini.

Strangers In The Night adalah kumpulan 3 novella dari Linda Howard. Rating : 3 of 5 [email protected] Medan30112013

Two thumbs up :)

Before I begin...When I picked up this book, from the library, I didn't bother reading the back because I really like Linda Howard's books, so I was kind of surprised to find out there were three books in one. I don't normally like short stories; I find there isn't enough character building or plot development. But anyways...Lake of DreamsI thought this one was pretty good. The dreams made you pretty freaked out, and at first, I was thinking, "Oh no! He's a bad guy!" But... well, I don't want to ruin it!! But, great short story (well, as great as short stories can be) 4 stars for this one! * * * *Blue MoonI found the plot wasn't very good in this one. It was just...a little annoying. I didn't enjoy it. And, I don't really like witches. 2 stars * *White OutI love love LOVE when this plot line is used. Girl all alone in a cabin, mystery man comes in, girl wonders who this guy could be... and love :) Not trying to spoil anything. I liked the mystery in this one. 4 stars * * * *I guess I would give this book an overall of 3 stars.* * *

How do you rate a collection of short novels? Average? Lowest common denominator? I'm never sure, which is why when I first read this some time ago, I didn't mention it here. But last night, in the mood for a very quick reread, I remembered the last of the three stories in this collection: Blizzard, and decided to give that one five stars. The other two...well, I don't remember them except for a vague sense that I almost didn't read the third one, and that would have been a shame! So, two attractive people stuck in a cabin in a blizzard...go!Yeah, yeah, when I put it like that you're thinking you've read that story before. And you've certainly read something similar, but if you're looking for a quick fix, this is a sexy, romantic encounter that I have to say is precisely the right length. Recommended to romance enthusiasts, especially if you like Linda Howard.www.christineamsden.com

If you love great romantic suspense novels, you'll enjoy this trio of short stories by Linda Howard. In Lake of Dreams, Thea Marlow dreams of making love to her dream lover. When she meets him in person, they realize they were meant to be through the hands of time, interpreting their dreams, when falling in love and fighting for what they want. In Blue Mondon, Sheriff Jackson Brody has been called to Deliliah Jones's home, and become under her spell. She's no witch, but she has healing powers and predicted they were meant to be by his aura. In White Out, Hope Jackson is stuck in a cabin during a blizzard, when Price Tanner needed mouth-to-mouth resusitation to warm him up. When there's a radio broadcast on an escaped convict, she didn't know what to believe. When the truth comes out, they plan a future together. Three times the romance and suspense.

This book comprised three short stories. I'm not that into short stories, otherwise I'd have rated it better. The LakeThis one is about a woman who has been having dreams of her past lives. In every life, she loved the same man. She thinks she's going nuts and retreats to her family's lake house for a rest only to find that he's her neighbor.Blue MoonA sheriff in Alabama meets a woman who lives out in the woods whom everyone says is a witch.White OutA widow who owns a series of cabins out in Idaho saves a man from a snowstorm. They were all pretty good. The first one in particular I wish were available as a novel. I really liked the history they shared, and watching her remember more and more about him. I also enjoyed how terrified she was of him, almost to the end. It was at least more exciting than some of the other relationships I've read.
