The Unlikely Samaritan continues with the story of the Loving and Macintyre families. Both families suffer the loss of a spouse one through death and one through divorce. Jack Loving is crazy about Lizzie Macintyre and, while on the surface, it appears to be an instant love we find out that they have a history. Lizzie’s pain and guilt are consuming her because Jeremy died believing a lie. It is heart wrenching watching her suffering. More devastating is watching how Lizzie’s depression impact her children. She has two beautiful children. Their scenes together are so touching and loving. In a way this book combines two genres that I really love romance and mystery. It also combines two things that I hate. Taking a great heroine--a woman who is strong and finds a way to save her family from destitution when her husband loses his job and drowns his failures in alcohol to the point that he becomes an alcoholic—then making her weak and lie by omission. Sucks large! The same with the hero although I’m not really sure who the hero is at this point Jack the man I thought is the hero until the end of the book. Mark who might be the hero who is kept slightly hidden in the role of friend through most of the book. There are a lot of unanswered questions obviously since there has to be at least one more book to wrap up this story. What I like:• The plot and sub plots in the story work beautifully. The Unlikely Samaritan had me feeling so many different emotions while I was reading. It had me cheering for Jack and Lizzie to move on with their lives, get together and be happy. The love scenes with Jack are hot yet tender and always loving. • The chapter headings. They give little hints about what is ahead. Example: Raindrops and Broken Spirits, Unannounced Visitors and Would-be Angry Neighbors. The chapters alternate between Lizzie and Jack’s point of view. I really enjoy seeing the story unfold through the main characters eyes. • Victoria, Jack’s ex-wife made me boil. Her story arc is interesting and I really hope she has her comeuppance. • The brewing scandal subplot has me anxious and praying that the characters I love come out solid after the shit hits the fan.• The characters are intense, fun, different, a little vindictive and loving. They all work together to tell a captivating story. Even though I have no idea what the world of the mega rich is like I can close my eyes and see this world in which they live. • I like the “regular” people who also play a role in the story. They add a little taste of my real life to the story. It is a great mixture.• The unfolding of the scandal. There is nothing better than watching the rich and famous unravel. Some of the people involved are politicians and other high profile people. It is the news story extraordinaire and watching them get caught making mistakes--winner. Throw a little sex into a scandal and the newsfeeds light up big time. Love it!• Cat fights. There is nothing better than seeing an evil bitch (Cindy) at work. We don’t get to see her demise (yet) but I’m praying that will come in the next book. The bad guy (a crook) and a couple women scorned (or at least they think they are scorned) are really bad. I love them.• Sarah’s (Jack’s mother) chapter. There is one chapter told from Sarah’s point of view. It is a surprise. I’m a little conflicted about her but she loves her son Jack. She is a strong woman and she knows more than we are aware at this point in the story. I’m still trying to figure out how she will impact this fiasco but I know something is going to happen. What I didn’t like:• I can’t help but start this section with a loud shout. … I HATE CLIFFHANGERS….but… I LOVE GOOD STORIES … The Unlikely Samaritan has both. Thus begins my love/hate relationship with this book and the series. • Lizzie disappointed me in this book. I loved her in the previous book. At the end of The Good Samaritan she is the focus of the big cliffhanger. Jeremy finds her and the accusations fly because of Cindy. It surprised me that Liz didn’t share any of this with Jack and I’m not even sure that Mark knows everything that Cindy did. I get why Lizzie didn’t want Jack to know about her job but once he found out she needs to be upfront with him. This sneaky Liz just really rubbed me the wrong way and I read on just waiting for the lie to backfire. It is inevitable and disappointing for me. I could understand Jack getting angry with Lizzie about her job. I could understand if they split over it but for Lizzie to lie by omission just ruined this character for me. I don’t know how this is going to resolve in the next book. All I know is I want to like her again. The cliffhanger is again major. I didn’t realize that this series was going to be more than two books. I started reading The Unlikely Samaritan expecting an ending and, hopefully a happily ever after. I didn’t get either. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed in myself for not doing my research before reading. My negatives do not take away from the writing or storytelling skills of Jolie Mae Miller. This is an excellent debut series. Honestly I have to keep reminding myself that Ms. Miller is a new author. She is a very good writer. I can’t wait for the next book and pray that we will get, at a minimum, THE END and I wonder who the actual love interest will be Mark or Jack. They both have potential and they are both very sexy.

ARC RECEIVED FOR AN HONEST REVIEWA really good story continues with another cliffhanger. Solid plot, great characters, jealous and vindictive ex-wife and wanna be girlfriend. I'm very disappointed that this character decided to be dishonest with a lie of omission. The ending is a cliffhanger and at this point I'm not sure about the two main characters. Jack's reaction to Victoria sharing Lizzie's secret is also disappointing. I don't know how Ms. Miller is going to change my mind in about them in the next book so I have to wait. I am not a patient person. The cliffhanger is again major. I didn’t realize that this series was going to be more than two books. You thought you knew: The Unlikely Samaritan ( book two) by Jolie Mae MillerI never expected some of the stuff that went down in this book, I applaud the author because not many books that are series surprise me this much, I usually know some way the characters are headed. Very dominate men in this series, both sexually, physically and in the business world. If you read the first book you know Mark Chesney and Jack Loving. I love these men, they fit into Lizzie's life differently but the same. They both love her, Mark realizes her wants her more as a friend than a bed partner, even though he'd jump her in a minute. Mark doesn't have many people he can really trust because of being so rich, their friendship means more to Mark than anything, trust is hard to find. Jack is a good friend of Marks, Jack finds he's jealous of their friendship, he has a hard time with it, he wants Lizzie all for him. This is what most people think of Lizzie, very trust worthy and stunning gorgeous, smart, nice to be around. She one of those people who doesn't see herself that way, this makes her so alluring to the rich men, she's not after their money. Lizzie takes her husbands death personally, that's the first thing I didn't see coming, I thought Lizzie was a strong woman and could take just about anything, so this blew me away. Many people are trying to help her get her shit together, Jack loving right at the top of the list, she has no idea about Jack. Of course Mark, her friend Jenny right beside the men. What Lizzie finds out will blow your brain, what lizzie does will blow your brain, What I read blew mine, now I have to wait for the next book! Let's go Jolie!!! I need more, now! I really wanted to tell you so much about this book, you seriously need to read this series. five stars all the way baby!!!✨✨✨✨

First of all – this book ended abruptly causing my brain to flamboyantly scream, “YOU B—CH!” In all honesty though, I am the one who lost track of where I was in the book and should’ve known it was going to happen between that and the way Book 1 left. One minute I was at 66% and the next the book was over and I was once again left hanging – I’m actually impressed with the author because I am not an easy person to surprise and was taken aback. (I do not actually harbor any negative thoughts – I think she’s awesome.)Now she either really loves commas or the book needs one more look-through. There are a few typos, but no one will ever find them all. The thing that occasionally distracted me was the abundance of commas everywhere. However, this did not take away from the reading experience as I’ve actually come to expect it leaning that she loves commas early on. ☺In all seriousness – this book is great and I do strongly recommend it. There is mystery, there is loads of drama and what makes it super fun is : there is scandal. Of course there’s some romance and some heat but ... did I mention the scandal?! I LOVE me some good drama. My only beef with this is that I need to wait to find out what happens next.

Lizzie has been through hell and back and she still thinks it's her fault. Mark and Jack have been there for her kids and her from the beginning. Jack is tired of standing around and doing nothing when he is attracted to her as strongly as he is. He's also scared to hurt her because of what she's been through. He puts his plans into action to get Lizzie to be his. Lizzie was approached with a business deal she's not to sure of. Lizzie is very nervous about her date. It's been a long time and she has no idea what to do. Their relationship is going strong and HOT until Jack starts working on a mysterious case. Jack is not feeling the best about the case so he asks Mark about it. Tables are about to turn on the new case and Lizzie is getting scared and is feeling guilty about not telling Jack. Will he understand or will he turn his back on her when she needs it the most?

Be prepared there are surprises and drama in store. Lizzie and Jack are back in true form bringing us some much needed heat and love. With all of the angst from book one and leaving you wanting more for the obvious book 3. I think I fell in love with Jack even more after reading this book! I swallowed the loved and emotion wholeheartedly waiting to see if my hero would get the love he so desperately wants in his life. You can't help but love the man. Lizzie strong and beautiful has many things that she is worried about, and even more scared will come to light. Jolie has given us more than just a romance she has given us a scandalous love affair with secrets that need to come to light. SO now that I have gobbled up book 2 I am not so patiently waiting for book 3!!!
