Penguin is back! The Penguin books are a personal favorite of mine - I love watching this little guy explore the world. This time Penguin strikes out for the North Pole and catches up with a few friends along the way (Pinecone!). He also makes a new friend in Polar Bear that teaches not everything you assume about someone is true.

I loved this book because of the Penguin and how it isn’t afraid of going on this adventure and still gets to see friends along the way and then gets to return back home. It’s a great story saying you’re never too far from home and that you can always come back no matter how far you wander or (waddle).

This was a fun book about a penguin who goes on a big adventure across the Earth trying to make a world record. He runs in to his friends who were working on their own world records, and I liked how it came full circle when his friends came to visit him; although that went completely over my 2.5 year old's head even when we tried pointing it out to her. I also liked that the penguin and polar bear were scared of each other first but they worked through it to become friends. It's a cute book though and I really enjoyed it.

Oh, that penguin! I've had great success in the past using Yoon's "Penguin and Pinecone" and "Penguin in Love" for my storytimes, and I look forward to using this one as well. Penguin embarks on an adventure to the North Pole, seeing many new things on the way. He befriends a polar bear.Looks great for any penguin or travel-themed storytimes, though there is also a "world record" angle.

First posted on my blog, Nine Pages.Yoon’s first, Penguin and Pinecone, delighted me, and I keep giving the series chances to live up to that high bar. Penguin decides to do something great, something no one else has done: He decides to become the first penguin to visit the North Pole. He sets off. His friends are doing wonderful things too. He visits old friends along the way (Pinecone and a crab from the beach). He reaches the North Pole, plants his flag, and celebrates, but he is not alone. A polar bear is there. Penguin has never seen a polar bear, and the polar bear has never seen a penguin, and both are afraid, but they smile awkwardly and both realize that neither is frightening and become friends. Penguin’s friends find him at the North Pole, having used their crafts to make a hot air balloon. Penguin says goodbye to the polar bear, and he leaves with his friends. The inclusion of the friends’ craft-making seemed a little rough and unnecessary to me, but I suspect Yoon wanted to show that great things and new things need not be so extreme as crossing the globe and to be able to explain the hot air balloon at the end. Had the construction of the pieces of the hot air balloon have seemed with direction and intention rather than happening to come together at the end to make a balloon, I would have been more pleased. Or I could have suspended my disbelief long enough to do without an explanation for the balloon. This is a timely book about seeing friends in people who look differently or unlike anyone that one has ever seen. I could have done with more time exploring Penguin and Polar Bear’s new friendship—though making new friends has already been explored in several other books of the series. From the title, I expected more of an adventure, and more about the journey. Perhaps I’m expecting too much, but it all seemed like a lot to put into a short book.

Penguin is ready to set off on this adventure to be the first penguin to set foot on the North Pole. He passes some friends along the way who are busy working on their own projects. Will penguin make it to the North Pole? What will he find when he gets there? Follow penguin’s journey to find out. Readers of Salina Yoon’s Penguin books will not be disappointed by this newest installment. Filled with large, bold illustrations and text, children can easily follow the story from Penguin’s point-of-view. They can live the adventure with him. This book would make a great read-aloud, as it offers chances for the reader to ask the listener what will happen next and to let the listener explain what is happening on the page. New readers will also see a lot of sight words. Recommended for ages 4-7, school and public libraries.

Penguin makes a journey to the North Pole. There, he meets Polar Bear and makes a new friend.I was hoping for more of a journey, though I did appreciate the fact that Penguin visited with friends from his previous books. I think I came to this book expecting something like Elf's journey to New York in the holiday movie (i.e “I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.”)Fans of the other Penguin books will still enjoy this title. Digital artwork. PreK-2.

We just love Salina Yoon's Penguin series and this one did not disappoint! I especially loved that along his Big Adventure, he (briefly) re-visited many of the locales of the earlier books. I also especially loved how you see his penguin friends working on their individual crafts at the beginning and then those all come together again in the end. Plus, you have to love the fact that Penguin got to meet a Polar Bear on his Big Adventure! I do hope those two stay fast friends as Penguin clearly has with his other acquaintances from the other books :-)

Story of penguin's adventure to the North Pole with stops along the way. The story doesn't flow as well as some of the other Penguin books, but it is a cute story all the same. For teachers, this would be a good book for predicting. The visitors from the beginning of the story are going to show up at the end of the book. What could be happening in their picture? This is a good sequencing story as well.

This is a cute story about a penguin who wants to be the first penguin to go to the North Pole. I don't want to spoil the ending, but it's cute enough. This is one of Kohl's special purchases. I also bought a toy penguin.

Penguin is off on an adventure to the North Pole where he meets polar bear and they explore together. But the nicest thing about an adventure is the returning home. Always like the illustrations in the titles featuring penguin, but the story is a bit contrived.
