Once there, they are to assess the situation and retrieve any data or specimens.Formerly a scientist in the Union Navy, Aron was dishonorably discharged following a court-martial for failing to obey orders. Stepping foot on the Cassini brings up old feelings he would rather forget. Shunned by the crew of the Cassini, Aron finds comfort in the arms—and bed—of Marine corporal Kane Robertson.Upon reaching the colony, it becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems. Once again, Aron is faced with a difficult decision: follow orders or follow his heart....

Second book in the “Galactic Conspiracies” series and this time the story is focused more on the Sci-fi adventure instead of the actual love story. Dr Aron Adler is familiar to Degans and to us. He is the one that saved Devin in the book “The Degan Incident”, when he informed Bastian’s family that Devin is Bastian’s true bondmate, he is pregnant and he is alone and in danger. Dr Adler will be sent to a suicide mission in a far away planet with a team of GEMS (Genetically Enhanced Military Units). Consequently he will fall in love with a Marine. There are no Degans in this book, although the book works as a bridge to the next book “The Degan Paradox” which it will be full of Degans. Also, don’t expect a strange bonding ritual. Aron and Roberson are both humans. No pregnancy involved, but there is happy ending.

Now this is what I call a sequel! And not just because you absolutely have to have read 'The Degan Incident' first to get the full impact of exactly what is going down in this book, but because it takes some of the ideas and events from that story and really builds on them. I remember one of the main characters (Dr. Aron Adler) as a good guy from the first volume and that made me want to find out what happened to him, so this was a nice continuation. The other part that made it so enjoyable was the deepening of the world building, giving me a much closer look at some of the background and the degree of evil that goes on behind the scenes. Beyond that, 'The Cassini Mission' is action-packed, tension-soaked, and stars another very hot romance on top of everything else. Aron was one of the doctors who helped Devin when he first found out he was pregnant (in book one). As it turns out, Aron is a xenobiologist, meaning he researches alien species. That is also the reason he is called to join the crew of the spaceship Casssini on a rescue mission. He is not happy about this: he doesn’t think he is qualified, nor does he see why they need a xenobiologist to rescue a group of researchers on the edge of the galaxy. And after his court martial (for insubordination) and having been booted out of the Union Navy he really doesn't want to have to work with them again – they all despise him. The aggression and outright contempt he faces as soon as he is reinstated for the purpose of the mission and enters the spaceship are severe. Thank God for Kane!Kane is one of the Marines on the mission, tasked with protecting Aron and two other scientists as they attempt to rescue the team nobody has heard from in six weeks, and extract any useful data while they are at it. He is one of the genetically engineered soldiers who survived the last war, and much of his behavior is pre-programmed. It was interesting to see him struggle with that fact and trying to figure out what was him, and what was his "programming". He is too intelligent to do anything without using his brain though, and that made him a great ally for Aron. Kane may be protective and possessive, but that is exactly what Aron needs in this situation. As soon as the team lands on the planet where the research team was doing their top secret stuff, the proverbial sh*t hits the fan. Nothing goes as expected, obstacle after deadly obstacle stands in their way, and what they discover at the core of it all is truly horrific. Not just because the type of research that was going on is highly illegal, but because the intrigue and subterfuge around it means the powers that be will not want anyone to survive the extraction of people or data. It's a mess of truly galactic proportions. If you like your science fiction with lots of action and objectives that seem impossible to achieve, if you enjoy reading about a scientist who loves working in the lab but instead has to pair up with a very hot super-soldier if they want to survive, and if you're looking for a great sequel to 'The Degan Incident' that will pull you more deeply into Rob Colton's vision of the future, then you will probably like this novel. Its feel is very different from the first book, yet it's an ideal addition to the series. Bring on the next volume, Rob!NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.

3.5 starsThis book is really sci-fi. I'm telling you. And I don't mind. I liked that. My problem is the romance in here felt forced. I don't feel the chemistry. All they were doing is having sex. I do like erotica. But I love romance the most. I'll look forward to book #3. :))

I was really hoping that once I got a few books out, that the first book I read from this author the "Degan Incident", it was only because of how good the other books were that caused me to give it such a low rating. I'm sorry to say it wasn't. This one was just as disappointing. The premise was still good, the large alpha and smaller partner was still enjoyable, but the execution was painful. Editing errors abounded, spelling, grammar and sentence confusion. If you change your mind about how the sentence describes what the character is doing, please go back and make sure you take out what was changed. Example: "I straddled his hips and ran my raked my fingers over his furry ab muscles." There were several instances of this.Though the dialogue wasn't cheesy in content, there was no conversation. One character would spit out a barrage of questions in one go and then the other would answer all of them. Another problem was a change of topic in the middle of dialogue. Someone would speak, perhaps asking or answering a question then without pause or clarification they'd give an order or talk to someone else. The story felt rushed as well. A little more fleshing out for both the characters and description of their surroundings, less time jumps and more world building and this could have been quite exciting. The romance between Aron and Kane felt weak. You see them having sex. You're told they fall in love. You don't FEEL it. I hate to say that I'm a little caught up in where this series is going and I'll probably finish it but there's no doubt it will be my only foray into this authors writing world.

So it's official. I am now a member of the Rob Colton fan club. His books are just fun to read, boasting solid story-telling, endearing characters, and an uncynical commitment to his genre. If Colton doesn't deviate much from the usual sci-fi plot lines--in this case deadly cyborgs and illegal government weapons research--it's because he knows how enjoyable these familiar stories can be when they are told with energy and affection. Bottom line: I am really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next installment. Warmly Recommend.

It's not often you enjoy the second installment as much as the first but I definitely did with this one. Dr. Aron Adler is forced to go on a rescue mission to an uninhabited planet and meets up with Kane, a genetically engineered Union Marine on the way. I really enjoyed this follow up book and can't wait for the next one!

This is book 2 in Rob Colton’s Galactic Conspiracies Series. You likely remember Dr. Aron Adler from book 1. Well, this is his book. Aron is called in for a mission and he’s not at all thrilled about it. First off he’s reinstated into the Navy, where he was dishonorably discharged from, and forced into this mission. He, along with 2 other science officers, a bunch of GEM Marines, and some questionable officers, he boards a very rusty old ship , The Cassini, on a trip he knows nothing about.Kane is a GEM Marine and he and Aron pretty much fall deep in lust with each other and thank god. They really have each other’s backs. This is a book full of lies, secrets, and a high body count. Not a lot of people make it out of this mission alive. As exciting as this story was I don’t think it was as good as the first book. I was entertained and excited and I had a lot of fun but it was missing something. I did however see how book 2 connected with book one so it is an important story. I look forward to the next story.

I was kind of disappointed in this second installment. ... The first book the Degan incident was amazing. Every page captured my interest. This time around I had a hard time even figuring out why things were happening. The plot did connect to the first book. Focusing on Degan dna but there were no degans involved at all. I assumed this series would be focusing on Degans connecting with humans. At the end of Book 1 there were at least 2 Degans that could have had their own story and it honestly sounded like the next story would be about Bastians uncle and possibly Dev's best friend Peri from earth. Instead it was the doctor, Aron Adler that we had really not even met. He was such a nonissue I remember him being mentioned but I don't think we MET him. He meets Kane Robertson on a super secret mission to another planet in order to check on a radio silent space station. It was a little frustrating that Kane is written with most of the Degan personality characteristics but is NOT a Degan. .. why not?!! Why make him human at all? 2 humans getting together in space is hardly as interesting as a human alien pairing. The plot was a little confusing and I don't think the plot aided or encouraged the romantic relationship between Kane and Aron. And that's really why we are here. .. for a romance book set in space. I literally checked for this book almost daily for months because I loved the Degan incident so Much but this one didn't Live up to my expectations... but much like the Degan incident the sex scenes in Cassini were quite good....I just hope the third book can get us back to the top....

The Degan Incident was one of my favorite book form this author which I'm a huge fan. When I found out that it was a sequel coming out I was hoping for "a real sequel" I was looking forward to find out more about Devin pregnancy and his friend who was still living in Earth, I had this silly idea that the author will keep the story line in that direction, Devin's friend going to see him and falling in love with one of Bastian friend.I was so wrong, this sequel is about a Doctor that we saw for 2 seconds in book one, a character that didn't hold my attention at all.If that wasn't bad enough, this story is science fiction from page one which I'm not very fond of it. The Degan Incident held my attention because of Bastian, but in this sequel two Human characters weren't enough for me to get into the story, not even when one of the human character is genetically engineered. If you are a fan of science fiction perhaps this is for you.

This series is quickly becoming crack to me as I tried reading something else but was drawn to this instead. There aren't many series that can just make me want to keep reading regardless of all else but this one has managed it. I like the universe the stories take place in and how each book is connected to each other. Honestly, I would've expected the sequel to continue on with the Degans but instead it looped around to a doctor from the first book that I never would've expected to get his own book. While a shorter read than the first book, I still came away satisfied; now I'm hoping I'll get to see more of Aron and Kane in later books.

Overall book rating: 3.8 Stars Audio book: N/A Book Cover: 1 Star MC1: Dr Aron MC2: KaneI rally hate the covers, Sorry but I do!!!My personal opinion I liked the first one more, this one was good in his own way. I know why it was done the way it was done but did there really have to die so many characters. I was like " Oh goody, I would like to have a book about this guy" next scene ...."Don't bother about a book about him he is dead"It was still an interesting story.

Really good follow up to the Degan Incident, although I wish we could of spent some time on Dega. Here we get the story of Dr. Adler who helped out Devin in book 1. When he meets Kane the super big and buff genetically modified marine there is instant chemistry. I liked the story but wished it was longer with more steamy details.

3.4 stars. Different vibe from the first book.. The MCs were both humans. Aaron was a brilliant medical researcher. Kane was a genetically enhanced soldier. Not as romantic. Not much relationship development. Great sex. Fun action scenes. Sweet ending.

Galactic Fun! Rob Colton is a software developer by day and writer of romance at night. I say quit your day job and start writing faster because the Galactic Conspiracies series is even more fun than The Timberland Pack Chronicles that I enjoyed enough I’m demanding more…soon!  I had a hoot and enjoyed this read completely. You know what the best part is there is nothing wrong with having fun reading a fun book.We met Doctor Aron Alder who helped Devon Drago in the first book in the series. Now he has to go on The Cassini Mission. He is forced to work with Marines who have been genetically enhanced and a few old acquaintances. Off they go to a specific planet to get some things done. Now let me make this perfectly clear, there was absolutely nothing original in the story and it didn't matter. It was fun, it read well, it was engaging and I can't wait for the next installment. That's what I think makes this work. Mr. Colton appears to just write and puts together an entertaining story. I don't know about anyone else but that is why I read.More please…

Wow. At first I was like 'seriously? Dr. Adler? We saw him for about a minute in the last book and now he gets his own book?' Well, I am glad my assumptions were off base. I loved this. I loved Kane. Oh boy, how I loved Kane. This had the right amount of information, action, and sex. Could I feel the love between Aron and Kane? Not really. I think it was too much based around a hostile environment for it to amount to anything. Do I think they cared for each other? Yes. That didn't diminish what I thought about the book though. Kane and Aron were still sweet and I liked them together. I CAN NOT WAIT until Peri's book though. EEK! I want to know more about what they found, too. Who's is it? Kinda freaky deaky what they found and have no clue what's going on.

There are no characters from the The Degan Incidentin this book (although there is a brief mention of Peri on the last few pages), but it is definitely a continuance of the same story. This is a very fast moving story - starting with Aron being reinstated in the Navy after a dishonorable discharge to flying through space to rescue some “samples” at an out-of-universe lab. If you read the first book, you can guess what kind of “samples” need rescuing. There is backdrop of a love story between Kane and Aron, but I suspect most of this book was a set-up for the next book in the series.

Great follow-up to The Degan Incident. I was expecting this book to pick up where the first left off, but boy was I wrong. This book centers on a character who we briefly meet in the first, Dr. Aron Adler.Though I would have loved to have the story of Devin's friend, Peri, I was no disappointed in this book. I am a science fiction junkie and this book was right up my alley. We have government conspiracies, secret missions, betrayal, killer cyborgs and a space battle. What's not to love.

I liked this book okay. I just never connected with the romance aspect of it very much. Sure Aron and Kane had lust going for them, but all they did together was sex. There was no talking really, aside from the back story reveals to each other. And then suddenly they end up married. It all went too fast for me. The "mystery/mission" aspect was interesting but it was fairly obvious. Cover pretty much gives it away if you pay attention. Still, I did enjoy it well enough. And I am DYING for what I hope is going to be book 3.

This went in a totally different direction from where I thought it would go. But, it came full circle and we get to here Peri's story (hopefully) in the next book. I loved this book as well as the first. Loved the backstory of Dr. Adler. Now I want to know, who's baby is it?!

This series continues to hold my interest. My biggest concern is that there doesn't seem to be much common ground for Aron and Kane to base their future on. Other than that the action is good and the characters and story are interesting.
