There is something about this book. I don't know what it is but it draws me in. I am a pro romance novel reader. I have ready contemporary, paranormal, historical, funny, and serious. But this book will always be my favorite. It had me laughing aloud, crying fiercely, cursing creatively, and sighing at the beauty. The love that was found and lost, the lives that were formed from the chaos of disaster. The sexiness of a new and unexpected love. This book with always remain on the main bookshelf of my room, close at hand.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. Though there are places that are very adult and romance-fiction material, this is a mostly historical western novel. It takes place in the United States, beginning in West(-ern) Virginia around 1860 and follows the affects of the curse of one man's hatred. This is a story of love and hate, and triumph and tragedy. I wouldn't recommend this novel for anyone younger than 15, due to a few very sensual scenes and the horrors placed upon the main characters.

Very interesting romance novel. Star-crossed lovers escape in the nick of time from a fate worse than death. Told in three parts, which is very unusual. Sets the stage for the remaining character's stories.

This was a great read with a real western feel to it. Loved the characters and the adventures they went on, and hated the book's villain. I may be a little bias in my love for this book, since it takes place in historic Iowa (where I'm from) and the characters are horse-people (I love horses). If you aren't that into old-west type romances, this book wouldn't be for you, but it is exactly my cup of tea! The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 follows Faith and Ian's love story. Part 2 follows their children as young adults. Part 3 follows their kids as adults living out on their own. I haven't read a book that was divided up like that before, and it was interesting to read through, but I missed Faith and Ian after part 1. This book does have some violence, rape, and gore that the author goes into detail with, and it does make you cringe, so be warned about that. Spoilers Ahead!Part 1 was definitely my favorite part of the book. I absolutely loved Ian. I'm not sure if it was his love for horses, how gentlemanly he was toward Faith, or if he was just an Iowa boy that made me take such a quick liking to him, but he was truly a lovable hero! Faith started out as a little too helpless for me. If she was unhappy and scared she could have saved herself, not wait for Ian to magically show up and make things better as most romance heroes do. But Ian and Faith together had a beautiful love story. They had such a pure connection which made you believe they were true soulmates that would always belong together. The villain makes for some interesting obstacles through their story. (view spoiler)[ I was absolutely distraught when Ian and Faith died. I seriously had to put the book down for a couple days in mourning, and when I started reading again I missed them for the entire rest of the book. I wanted to hear more of their story.(hide spoiler)]Part 2 definitely went by slowly. I was still missing Ian and Faith, and it seemed like Jamie and Jenny weren't making all that much progress through the book. They grew up a bit, but it took so long that I got bored.Part 3 was interesting. I hadn't read a book before which follows a character from birth to adulthood. It was interesting to see Jamie all grown up, and how both he and Jenny matured and changed. Jenny's love story wasn't nearly as sweet as Ian and Faith's, but it was still nice to see her growing love. Jamie didn't hardly have a love story. The narration was basically just "oh, and Jamie is sleeping with this girl btw. Moving on.." The side characters were also fun to meet. The end of the book got pretty shocking (view spoiler)[ with the villain's grand return.(hide spoiler)] But after that the book wraps up pretty quickly. This book is part of a series that I am going to start following, but this could easily be its own story. Plenty of excitement!

Wow. I read a lot of books, and only a small amount ever move me as much as this one did. So well written, the characters captivating, etc. This book had everything a historical/romance novel needed in it: Beautiful love stories, fast paced action sequences, heart-wrenching moments, and tender ones as well.
