nyteria rising Reviews

I enjoyed Nyteria Rising just as much as, if not more than, the first two books of the series. I mistakenly thought it was a trilogy and so expected that this book would wrap up the story, but although I am frustrated at being left with another huge cliffhanger, made worse by the fact that the next book is not yet published and I'm going to have to wait to find out what happens, I am very pleased that the story will continue and that I have more books to look forward to in this great series. The writing is brilliant. There is fantastic attention to detail and the descriptions are excellent, which enabled me to build a detailed picture in my head of the characters and the various settings. Although it is written in 3rd person, we follow the main character, Val, so closely that we get caught up in her thoughts, excitement, fears and of course all the action. This cleverly distracts us from thinking about the absent characters like Delta and Flo who are still out there somewhere, probably planning revenge, as we are so caught up in Val's relief at having saved the planet.I love the characters and am always wondering what we are going to find out next. Since the start of the series, when all the characters, including Val, seemed to be just ordinary people, we have learnt so much about many of them. Gradually we have followed Val as she has discovered more about herself as well as Shane and his late wife, about Val's 'parents' and especially about Wendy. I still think there is more to discover about Sam and am looking forward to reading more about him. As well as Val's discoveries, the characters and the relationships between them are constantly developing, keeping them alive and interesting. This is a Young Adult book, and as such, my expectations are usually different. However, although I have reluctantly handed over my kindle to my daughter to read this series, which she cannot put down either, I really did enjoy it myself and would recommend it to adults and teenagers alike.

I'm going to split my review into two parts; the first for the target audience, the second for older audiences.Nyteria Rising throws us once again into the imaginative world of Valerie (Val) Saunders as she continues to get to grips with a new life and the new powers she inherited on her last birthday. This time we are taken to a new world, some new people with a grudge to bear, and thrown into the underworld where there are some weird wheeled wonders to behold. All this while Val is trying to protect Earth from attack by her old enemy Lailah and her ex-friend Delta. If you are a young-adult who has enjoyed the adventures of Val Saunders so far, you will revel in the twists and turns that Twynham takes you through before you get to the end of this third adventure. Enjoy the journey, but start saving up for book 4, you'll want to get it too!Now for older audiences...Twynham has improved her writing skills once again with this third book in the thirteenth series, seeing the grammar and post-editing much improved over her previous offerings. It's not perfect quite yet, but what remains detracts very little from the story. In terms of the writing though, my biggest moan about Nyteria Rising is in the numerous uses (almost overuse) of teenage clichés. As a bloke, the blurb nearly put me off reading the book at all – I really didn't want to read all the mush about Val preparing for her wedding. Ugh! Thankfully, there is no mush, and the wedding itself has typical Twynham inventiveness that I was even curious about how it turned out. Before I comment on the story itself, I need to comment on the audience, of which I am most definitely not within the target market. Book 1, The Thirteenth, was a universal book, which I loved and I felt was suitable for pretty much any audience (young-adult upwards). Book 2 was written in a style to suit a definite teenage audience of the Generation 'Y' short attention-span reader, with lots of characters and dialogue. Book 3, through it's story content, use of language, and multiple uses of clichés, has lowered the bar once again in my opinion, and this time appears to target the top end of the 'childrens literature' market instead of young-adult (in comparison to, say, Artemis Fowl which was a brilliant series aimed at younger readers but had an air of intelligence and despicability to keep adults enthralled too). The lowering of the target audience is not necessarily a negative, but as an older reader it has made the story too simplistic for me to suspend my belief. One of the main reasons I think this book is aimed at a younger audience is due to its total lack of peril. There are too many situations where Val is put 'in danger' but does nothing to get out of it other than wait around for her friends to beat the baddies for her; the repeated use of this affect makes it far too predictable for older readers to remain enthralled.I think younger readers will thoroughly enjoy the Nyteria Rising storyline, and won't be apt to question the relevance of it to the previous books or the story so far. Twynhan gives us her wonderful inventiveness again, bringing new elements into Val's story which are completely unexpected, but there is no indication as to what importance they may play in the larger storyline. This is where, as an older reader, I start to get a little confused. For all of the action and twists and new locations, I didn't feel that the overall story progressed much. In fact, I was left disappointed as to why the bad-guys won!If you are here looking to buy a book for a younger audience relation, there is everything in Nyteria Rising that you could want, and I would highly recommend it. But, for pure selfishness, I can only hope the next book raises the audience age once again so that I can explore the gems of Twynham's imagination for some time to come.

A great continuation of the series and action packed as the first two books. Val's good karma has not kicked in yet but twists and turns keep on coming. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Oh, Val... Val Val Val Val Valerie Saunders Val... What a complicated and twisted life you have, I even hope you stay alive in the fourth book! I enjoyed this book so much, and it is quite different from the others. It has a great plot with some new characters that you will really love (trust me!) and some you will really despise. Anyway, Val becomes a "magrafe", she has new people to work with other than good old Zac with his mean but funny comments on how bad Val is, but oh well, she does her job very well! She actually ends up saving many people so yeah good for you, Val! Have a cookie. There are some parts and chapters in the book that got me a bit emotional, okay, fine. Not a bit. So freaking emotional! So, if you haven't read the book yet and you want to read it, then be prepared for tears of joy and tears of sadness. Also, the girl is one fire! She is such a hero! She saved many people and everyone must be so proud of her! Anyway, the book is really great and deserves more than five stars!

Really enjoying the series so far. An unexpected plot direction, but still maintains it's fast pace!Initial Thoughts1. There are no signs of slowing down for Val and her friends. Teleported from one adventure to another, my heart was racing wondering what will happen next.2. Sci-fi awesomeness! Nyteria Rising is ramped up with amazing science-fiction elements. Great setting, characters, and gadgets. Loved it!3. Very cool twists and surprises. Unexpected plot direction, and new character development made this story a page-turner.4. Loved the characters! More characters are introduced, and I wanted to read more of them and their back story.5. A new threat is introduced, and the pressure to save not one world but two weighs heavily on Val's shoulders. The plot made for a very intense read.Val is on fire! Literally! Stand back, you're in for an adventure unlike any other! ;D

I couldn't wait to get my hands on Nyteria Rising, and it did not disappoint,A FANTASTIC Read, just couldn't put it down. Priscilla from The Readables said 'Val is on Fire!' Yes she sure is on Fire! Nyteria Rising picks up where The Turncoats leaves off, it's a Fabulously written, action packed on the edge of your seat roller coaster of emotion thrilling adventure! I love the characters old and new, Val is still a fabulous heroine. I can't pick out a favourite part of the book but, I have to say it brought me to tears in one part and I nearly missed my stop for home while reading Nyteria Rising on the bus! Hoping we don't have to wait too long for book four in the series.

I won't make this too long - on the whole I've loved the series. But this one wore me down a little more than the other two. If I could I'd give it 3 and a half stars, it just wasn't quite up to the level of the other two and I couldn't give it 4. Maybe it got too complex?I did like the second half a lot more, with the fight, and Nyteria's leader, all that stuff. No spoilers, don't worry...But I will still be reading the 4th, hope the plot slows down a little and we get some really good writing. :)

Georgia signed my book in waterstones, I bought it and took it home. I then sat down and began reading. I was only planning on reading a few chapters and then pausing until the next day. However, Nyteria Rising had me so hooked I read it cover to cover. And I did it a second time one night. It is a book that once I start I feel like I cannot stop until it is finished! And I can't believe how It ended! I need book 4!! Thank you Georgia!! Xxx

This book was just as good at the first two, though, this one actually made me cry. I love the plot line and I love the names of the characters! I can't believe the cliff hanger though! I'm really looking forward to the next book and hoping it'll be as good as the first three! They're funny and great books to read! :D

This is definitely my favourite book of the series so far. The twist at the end left my head spinning! Was totally blown away with it and it's going to be a long wait for the next book!! March 2013 cannot come quick enough! Excellent work again Georgia, such a talented writer. This book series needs more exposure, everyone needs to read it!

just totally brilliant - and I am NOT a sci-fi fan! Val is a breath of fresh air with all the trappings of a teenage girl trying to fit in. Well done!
